Interesting Things On the Internet: Edition 3
The term "good news" has reached a five-year high on Google. People everywhere are looking for a silver lining. Memorial Day sort of feels like New Year's Eve. We don't know what's on the other side, but we're excited about the break and the change.
Here's to a weekend of rest, recharging, and grilling. And if you're grilling, I highly recommend tracking down a bottle of Lillie's Q. Worth. Every. Drop.
The Wave art exhibit: Walking down the bustling streets of Seoul feels like most major cities. Cars, people, everyone in a hurry to get somewhere else. What stops traffic in person and even virtually is this super cool wave in action. It's a bit mesmerizing, so be prepared to keep it playing when you need a moment of calm.
Work From Home Standard: With safety, security, and prioritizing health and wellbeing on the minds of people all around the world, companies that genuinely care about their employees will be the next darlings to work for. Facebook announced this week the shift to a long-term WFH model, potentially giving up expensive real estate in the Valley, culture-building face time, and office perks for employee wellbeing. Who else - big and small - will follow?
For those who love graphs: Venn diagrams and notes on post-its are some of the best things on the planet (yep, I'm geeky). Matt Shirley takes these graphs out of the business world and puts a brilliant real-world spin on them.
Lord of the Flies Redux: When we need humanity stories the most, here's one about the superpowers of humanity. In 1965, fifteen boys got stranded on an island. Instead of growing apart, they found ways to come together and help everyone survive. (Can we all take note?)
Tiny Desk Concerts: NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts are today's version of MTV's Unplugged. Live, stripped-down shows from up and coming artists across all genres.
Some Good News: Pasado, an animal sanctuary in Washington, is offering a new pen pal program for people (at any age!) to connect with animals. Start the conversation via snail mail and begin a friendship with a pig, cat, or even a turkey.
